What does it mean when your tabs turn green in Windows Explorer 8?
Q.

A. When you open a tab that's associated with another tab (i.e. by ctrl-clicking a link or a few) IE changes their color to make colored groups of tabs for easy identification of groups.

Try it, sometimes they go purple :) When you have a few groups, each has its own color.
