Q. You sell storm windows and doors. You receive a straight commission of 8 percent of the selling price of each storm window and 12 percent of the selling price of each door. What total commission will you receive for selling storm windows worth 5,400 and doors worth 790?

A. Do you honestly not know how to calculate a percent? Just do like you learned in fourth grade: TURN THE PERCENT TO A DECIMAL AND MULTIPLY.

8 percent of x is x times 0.08.

12 percent of x is x times 0.12.

will there be a windows 7 price drop, when windows 8 comes out?
Q. I know sometimes when a new product comes out, the previous model will get a price cut, but I'm not sure if the same is true of operating system software. I want to upgrade my computer to a 64 bit version of windows 7, but I'm wondering if it's worth waiting around until windows 8 comes out.

A. Actually, the price will increase because they will stop making Windows 7 thus any unsold copies will become rare.

Are you already using Windows 7? If so then you can upgrade to the 64-bit version for free. Just download a 64-bit ISO of Windows 7, burn it to a DVD, and boot your computer from the disc. Make sure to backup all the stuff you want to save. You'll have to do a clean install of the OS to upgrade 7 to the 64-bit version and that will delete all of the files you don't backup.

If you don't have Windows 7 already then that's a different story. A lot of folks don't like new start screen in Windows 8. Many don't like the Metro interface much, either. Would be unfortunate if you installed 8 and didn't like it.

I suggest running the Windows 8 consumer preview in a virtual machine like VirtualBox. You can test drive the OS without actually changing your computer. Since it's in a virtual machine, the performance might not be great but at least you'd be able to see how things look in the new OS and kinda get a feel for it. If you're okay with the changes then waiting might be fine.

If you don't like the start screen or Metro interface then you can go ahead and get Windows 7 now before the price increase.

Will the price of Windows 7 drop when Windows 8 comes out?
Q. Well I want to build a computer soon and im just wondering if windows 7 will drop in price when windows 8 gets released.

What happened to vista when 7 came out? what about xp when vista came out? Did they drop in price or just go fully offsale?

A. When 7 was released it was still possible to buy Vista for about 6 months easily. After that it became a little more difficult to get. You'll probably see something similar when Win 8 is released. It did drop in price as I recall but it was a very small drop.

Will windows 7 price drop if windows 8 is released?
Q. I hope so!

A. No, the prices will remain the same if you are buying a computer from a OEM or buying any OEM computer.

The license for retail will not fall either. As the vendor already have bought the product and needs to make back what was spend.

When Windows 8 comes out, will W7's prices skyrocket?
Q. Will it even be for sale at all?

A. Windows 8 Pro will be released Worldwide on October, 2012. The price for Upgrading and DVD Purchasing of the New OS from Microsoft will remain low for few days. But Microsoft announced that after January 29, 2013 Windows 8 OS will beam up to higher prices in the Market. So the price of the Windows 7 OS will decrease after January 29, 2013 and not when the Windows 8 is released.
Cheers :)
