Q. I have a toshiba laptop satelite that is being repaired , should b here tomorrow by end of day. It is a Windows 7 64 bit. I was going to purchase the $40 download for Windows 8 upgrade. All my software that I have is compatible w/ Windows 7, Visa, XP, 2000 etc... but how would I know if it would working w/ Windows 8? Is there software I can download to Windows 7 to see if it would be compatible w/ Windows 8 b4 I purchase the upgrade? Thanks a lot

A. Yup! When you do the download upgrade you get a program called Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. It'll check your computer for incompatible software and give you a list of stuff it finds.

If I purchase an upgrade to Windows 8, can I use my Windows 7 retail license on a different computer?
Q. 2 years ago I purchased a retail copy of Windows 7 Professional. I want to purchase Windows 8, but what will that do to my (expensive) Windows 7 license? After I upgrade, can I install Windows 7 on a different machine using my Windows 7 license since my other machine will now have a Windows 8 license?

A. Yes you can install it on a different machine. Or you could even do a dual boot and have it on the same machine.

I just upgraded to windows 8 - I used to be able to watch youtube & play freecell at the same time but?
Q. I can't figure out how to minimize the freecell game so I can play freecell and watch youtube at the same time. Any suggestions? I am running windows 8 on a laptop. This worked perfectly on windows 7.

A. Start a game of Freecell. Put your pointer at the very top of the screen and it will turn into a hand.

Click and drag it to either the left or the right.

You can do the same thing with a keyboard shortcut: Win + .

Win + D to get back to the desktop.

Freecell will be open on the desktop where your web browser is open.

Can you upgrade FROM the windows 8 consumer preview TO windows 8 Retail when it releases later this year?
Q. So I am planning to put Windows 8 on my machine, but later this year when Windows 8 launches can I upgrade to it without having to do a fresh install? This is all keeping in mind that it will be the same bit editions, (64 bit to 64 bit), and just the regular Windows 8, not pro.

Thanks.

A. Based upon past OS releases, no. They've all required a fresh install so far. Windows 8 probably won't be any different.

Why Windows 8 preview is having many limitations? Is it necessary to upgrade to Windows 8?
Q. Many people installed thinking Windows 8 would be better but every one is sticking back to Windows 7 because windows 8 has lot of disadvantages and limitations. Is Windows 8 is going to be flopped? Then why the Microsoft is releasing this version of Windows 8. Are they planning to make money by just changing the themes of Windows 7 and naming it as Windows 8. Is it necessary to upgrade to Windows 8?

A. Windows 8 has no limitations or disadvantages compared to Windows 7, in fact it has many new features, including an app store, easy sharing between apps, a touch friendly interface, built in security, and many others. Of course it isn't necessary to upgrade, but there are many features which may give you a compelling enough reason to do so.
